Woman from Fulton Hill Shot
The Richmond Times Dispatch is reporting that a woman in her early 20s, from the 1200 block of Nelson st. in Fulton Hill was brought into the emergency room at VCU Medical Center around 2 a.m. this morning with a gunshot wound in her lower torso. At this time police are unsure where the shooting occurred.

Planned Police Chase today in Fulton!
Today at 4:00 pm, the police chief from the 1st precinct is going run with the recruits through the streets of Fulton. They are going to start at the Powhatan Recreation Center, run east on Goddin St to Waverly, Waverly to National Street, east on National St to Central, Central to Williamsburg Rd, Williamsburg Rd to Parker St, Parker to Nelson, west on Nelson through Wynwood Apartments to Potomac St, Potomac St to Northampton St and Northampton back to Powhatan Rec Center. If you get a chance to let some residents know so they can cheer them along that would be great!

Reminder: Leaf Collection Coming Up!
Just a reminder that the City of Richmond’s leaf relief collection program will be coming to Fulton January 4 – 15. Please make sure you have your leaves raked to your property line by the 4th. Below is a list of guidelines. If you don’t want to wait for the collection program please remember you can bag your leaves at anytime and they will be picked up with your trash. Please make sure you bag your leaves in special lawn and leaf bags so that they can decompose with the leaves. There is a 6 bag limit per week when put out with your trash.
Vacuum Collection Program Guidelines
- Rake leaves to your property line.
- Do not rake leaves into the street.
- Leaves must be placed out for collection by the start date indicated for your route.
- Keep leaf piles less than 2 feet in height.
- Keep leaves away from ditches, pipes, and culverts.
- NO DIRT, ROCKS, METAL OR BRANCHES; these items will prevent crews from collecting your piles.

Update: Abandoned newborn found in the yard of an Eastern Henrico Home

As reported by the RTD
Henrico police today said an abanboned baby boy found in the eastern end of the county last night probably was less than a day old.
“Thankfully he was found, but he could have died,” Lt. Doug Perry said this morning. “There were no clothes on the baby.”
The discovery was made around 8:50 p.m. by a woman walking by who saw the unclothed infant on the front lawn of a home in the 4400 block of Samara Drive.
Perry said the boy, of African-American descent with light skin, was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he was in good condition.

During the month of July, the Sector experienced a 19% increase in Major Crime; a 40% decrease in violent crime (15 incidents reported in 2008 compared to 9 in 2009) and a 33% increase in property crime (60 incidents reported in 2008 compared to 80 in 2009). The 9 violent crimes reported included: 1 Aggravated Assaults (Domestic related), 4 Aggravated Assault and 4 robberies. Of the 9 violent incidents reported 4 of them have been cleared by arrest and the remaining 5 are still being investigated by detectives. The current trend in Property Crime continues to be thefts related to motor vehicles and most recently residential burglaries. These burglaries are occurring mainly during the day and to both occupied homes and properties under renovation. The suspect(s) would enter the homes by either kicking in the rear door or through an open rear window. Read more >

Mother on the 1900 block of Newman Rd. charged with murder

The Richmond Police Department has charged a woman with murder in connection with the death of her son in May. Investigators obtained an indictment and subsequently arrested Ashley C. During the month of May the Sector experienced a 49% increase in Major Crime; a 200% increase in violent crime (3 incidents reported in 2008 compared to 9 in 2009) and a 38% increase in property crime (42 incidents reported in 2008 compared to 58 in 2009). The 9 violent crimes reported included; 2 Homicides, 2 Aggravated Assaults (Domestic), 1 Aggravated Assault and 4 robberies. Of the 9 violent incidents reported 4 of them have been cleared by arrest. The current trend in Property Crime continues to be thefts related to motor vehicles, to include the theft of motor vehicles, residential burglaries and all other larceny which includes everything from bicycles to packages left on the front porch. Of the 28 thefts related to motor vehicles reported Fulton and Church Hill North were hit the hardest.
