Police seeking suspect in Family Dollar robbery

Richmond Police needs the public’s help identifying and locating the man who robbed the Family Dollar at 1720 Williamsburg Road at gunpoint on Friday:

Shortly after 11 a.m. April 23, a man walked up to one of the registers with items as if he were going to make a purchase. He then displayed a gun and demanded the cashier give him money from the cash register. He also ordered the store manager to open the safe.

Richmond Metro Crime Stoppers looking for help with Nelson Street shootings

Richmond Metro Crime Stoppers recently issued the following:

Crime Stoppers needs your help with an unsolved string of shootings in Richmond’s East End. Both shootings occurred on Nelson Street, in the Woodcroft Apartment Complex. The first victim was shot at approximately 3:00 AM on November 26, 2009. The second victim was shot at approximately 3:00 AM on March 3, 2010. Both victims are females, and reported seeing no suspect when they were shot.

During March, the Sector experienced a 7% decrease in Major Crime; a 38% increase in violent crime (8 incidents reported in 2009 compared to 11 in 2010) and a 14% decrease in property crime (59 incidents reported in 2009 compared to 51 in 2010). The 11 violent crimes reported included: 8 Aggravated Assaults and 3 robberies. Of the 11 violent incidents reported 6 have been cleared by arrest and the remaining 5 are still being investigated by detectives. The current trend in Property Crime is thefts related to motor vehicles, to include motor vehicle theft and the theft of mopeds. During this month there were 20 vehicles broken into, 6 vehicles and 5 mopeds stolen.

Shooting in a Carlisle Ave. apartment today


There was a shooting today at approximately 2 pm inside an apartment in the 1700 block of Carlisle Ave. The male victim was shot in the face by a known female and she was arrested a short time later. At this time the victim’s injuries are not life threatening.

NBC12 is reporting that the police are looking for a suspect in a non-fatal shooting at about 11PM last night in the 1100 block of Jennie Scher Road.

Fulton noteworthy events in February

Fulton –
• Search warrant executed at 5313 Blueridge Ave which resulted in the arrest of two adult males and the seizure of 3 firearms and cocaine.
• Search warrant executed at 1329 Darbytown Rd which resulted in the arrest of one adult male and the seizure of 2 firearms and marijuana.
• There were 5 additional narcotic related arrests throughout the neighborhood.
• Robbery – 1600 block of National St – 2 black male suspects entered a residence assaulted one of the residents and robbed him of jewelry and money.

During February, the Sector experienced a 15% decrease in Major Crime; a 44% decrease in violent crime (9 incidents reported in 2009 compared to 5 in 2010) and a 7% decrease in property crime (30 incidents reported in 2009 compared to 28 in 2010). The 5 violent crimes reported included: 2 Aggravated Assaults and 3 robberies. Of the 5 violent incidents reported 3 have been cleared by arrest and the remaining 2 are still being investigated by detectives. The current trend in Property Crime continues to be residential burglary; there were 7 reported during February, 2 of which were domestic related and 2 occurred to the same residence.

Woman from Fulton Hill Shot

The Richmond Times Dispatch is reporting that a woman in her early 20s, from the 1200 block of Nelson st. in Fulton Hill was brought into the emergency room at VCU Medical Center around 2 a.m. this morning with a gunshot wound in her lower torso. At this time police are unsure where the shooting occurred.

Three-alarm fire burns an S.B. Cox Building

The fire was reported a little after 3 a.m. in a industrial structure. At this time the cause is not known.

The building, in the 5200 block of Hatcher Street, just south of Williamsburg Road near the Henrico County line, is a large, steel-siding structure, and the first crews on scene found heavy fire and heard small explosions coming from the structure.

Once it was determined that there were storage tanks on site for acetylene, which is used in welding torches, Richmond firefighters called for more crews from the city as well as Henrico.
