First Precinct – Sector 111
Community Report
February 2010
Lieutenant James J. Laino

During February, the Sector experienced a 15% decrease in Major Crime; a 44% decrease in violent crime (9 incidents reported in 2009 compared to 5 in 2010) and a 7% decrease in property crime (30 incidents reported in 2009 compared to 28 in 2010). The 5 violent crimes reported included: 2 Aggravated Assaults and 3 robberies. Of the 5 violent incidents reported 3 have been cleared by arrest and the remaining 2 are still being investigated by detectives. The current trend in Property Crime continues to be residential burglary; there were 7 reported during February, 2 of which were domestic related and 2 occurred to the same residence.

Throughout the month of February we focused on residential burglaries in the Fulton and Church Hill neighborhoods. During this time there were no reported incidents in Church Hill and 5 incidents in Fulton, 2 of which were domestic related. During the month of March our focus remains on residential burglaries in Fulton and Union Hill; officers will conduct high visibility assignments such as walking, biking and directed patrol in those areas. If there is a burglary in your neighborhood I will notify the civic association within 2 days of the incident and ask that the information be disseminated throughout your neighborhood. We will also continue to watch for other crime trends throughout the sector and make the necessary changes to our focus.

As the warm weather approaches I would like to get a jump on addressing environmental issues within each neighborhood. As you travel throughout your neighborhood please take note and notify me of any street lights that are out, vacant properties that need to be boarded and abandoned vehicles.

Crime Trends for February:
• Church Hill – no current trend.
• Chimborazo – no current trend.
• Church Hill North – no current trend.
• Fulton – residential burglary.
• Oakwood – no current trend.
• Union Hill – no current trend.

First Precinct – Sector 111
Community Report
December 2009

I would like to start by thanking the officers and detectives that are assigned to the sector and the citizens who reside and work within the Sector for an exceptional December and 4th Quarter. During the last three months of the year, Sector 111 had the largest crime reduction in the City; a 29% reduction in Major Crime (a 13% reduction in violent crime and a 31% reduction in property crime). This was the second year we experienced a crime reduction in the 4th quarter; in 2008 there was a 10% reduction. This was made possible by the collaborative effort between the police and the community. The officers and detectives focused on specific crimes in target areas while the citizens were kept abreast of crime trends and provided assistance in solving problems. I look forward to building upon the present relationships with the citizens, businesses and civic associations in the New Year.

During the month of December, the Sector experienced a 51% decrease in Major Crime; a 42% decrease in violent crime (12 incidents reported in 2008 compared to 7 in 2009) and a 53% decrease in property crime (64 incidents reported in 2008 compared to 30 in 2009). The 7 violent crimes reported included: 1 Aggravated Assault (Domestic related) and 6 robberies. Of the 7 violent incidents reported, 1 of them has been cleared, a warrant obtained in another and the remaining 5 are still being investigated by detectives. There is no current trend in Property Crime; however we still experienced 6 residential burglaries and 9 thefts related to motor vehicles throughout the sector.

During the month of January we are going to continue to focus on robberies in the Fulton and Church Hill North neighborhoods, officers will be walking, biking and on directed patrol assignments in those areas. We will also continue to watch for trends in burglaries and thefts related to motor vehicles in other neighborhoods.

Crime Trends for September:
• Church Hill – no current trend.
• Chimborazo – no current trend.
• Church Hill North – robbery.
• Fulton – residential burglary.
• Oakwood – no current trend.
• Union Hill – no current trend.
