Chiefs Youth Football Season Comes to an End
Two youth football teams from the Powhatan Hill Community Center played for the City Championships on Saturday, November 21st. The Juniors (ages 13-14) played the Westover Warriors at Hovie Field (V.U.U.) and the J.V. PeeWees (ages 7-9) played the Bellemeade Rams at Hotchkiss Field. Each team gave their best effort but lost 7 to 0 in both games. The Juniors and J.V. PeeWees won the Northeast Championships to advance to the City Championships.
The Chiefs youth basketball program season will begin in January; registration begins in December.

Youth Football Games for Chiefs Rescheduled
The Powhatan Hill Chiefs J.V. PeeWee Championship game previously schedueled for Saturday, November 14th has been changed to Saturday, November 21st. The game will be played at Hotchkiss Playground located at 701 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Semi-final games for the Juniors and PeeWees will be played on Wednesday, November 18th at Blackwell Playground located at 300 E. 15th Street (across from Blackwell Elementary School). The PeeWee game begins at 6:00pm; the Juniors game will be played at 7:30pm. GO CHIEFS!

Chiefs J.V. PeeWees Playing in Championship Game
The Powhatan Hill Chiefs J.V. PeeWees won an overtime game this past weekend to earn the right to play in the City Championship Game. They will play this Saturday, November 14th at Hotchkiss Playground (701 E. Brookland Park Blvd.) at 11:30am. The J.V. PeeWee team consist of boys aged 8 and 9 (with some 7 year old players). In addition, the Juniors and PeeWees will also play this Saturday at Beard Field (Battery Park) in semi-finals games for the opportunity to play for the City Championships in their age divisions. The Juniors will play at 10:00am and the PeeWees at 1:30pm. If your schedule permits, come out and support your neighborhood teams.

Have Money Work for You
There will be a financial education workshop at the Powhatan Hill Community Center (5051 Northampton Street) on Monday, October 12 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. We promise it will not be another boring seminar of information you already know. The following will be covered: 1) The Rule of 72; 2) The Power of Compound Interest; 3) common errors consumers make; 4) Reverse Mortgages; 5) How to plan for retirement. All of this in 1 hour or less. If you want to expand your financial knowledge and work towards making your dreams a reality, make plans to hang out with us for about one hour. Light refreshments and a free individual plan will be available to all who attend this event.

2009 Great Summer Escape “Adventures through Time”
Registration for the 2009 Great Summer Escape has begun at the Powhatan Hill Community Center. The Great Summer Escape is for youth participants ages 6 through 12. The fee for the program is $225.00 for nine weeks. The program begins on Monday, June 22nd and ends on Friday, August 21st; programming begins each day at 7:30am and ends at 5:30pm. This nine week program will incorporate citizenship and leadership, social recreation, environmental education, personal education, health and physical education and cultural enrichment. The program also offers exciting field trips and an opportunity for participants to make new friends and improve social skills (some field trips may cost an additional fee). Breakfast and lunch will be served daily. Call the center if you need additional information (646-0973).

Youth Baseball in Fulton Hill
The Diamond no longer has Braves baseball games, but Fulton Hill does have the Powhatan Hill Chiefs. We have teams competing in three different age groups: ages 7 to 8 (Machine Pitch); ages 9 to 10 (Minors); and ages 11 to 12 (Majors). Come out and support the Powhatan Hill Community Center’s youth baseball teams. Home games are played at the Powhatan Hill playground; bring a lawn chair and enjoy some good youth baseball (weather permitting). Concessions will be available at some games; call the center (646-0973) for more details.

Powhatan Hill – Spring Break Hours and Easter Egg Hunt
During the week of April 6, the Powhatan Hill Community Center will be open Monday through Thursday at 11:30am to 8:00pm. The center will resume regular hours on April 13th. Also, the facility as well as most City of Richmond offices will be closed on Friday, April 10th in observance of Good Friday. On Saturday, April 11th at 11:00am, the Powhatan Hill Community Center in collaboration with the City of Richmond Police Department will host an Easter Egg Hunt. The fun will take place at the Powhatan Hill Playground. For more questions regarding the Easter Egg Hunt, please call Sgt.
