WCLM urges boycott of local tax office
5 Comments »An email went out this morning from Preston Brown, the owner/operator of the southside radio station WCLM, urging folks to boycott The New Era Accounting & Tax Services on Williamsburg Road:
The Heart and Soul of the City Newspaper was called to The New Era Accounting & Tax services at 1631 Williamsburg Road next door to Krispy Fried Chicken on Feb 4, 2010.
A 17-year-old high school student went there to see how much it would cost to have her taxes done. She was told to leave her w-2 forms so they could check it out after two trips there she felt uncomfortable doing business with Oladipo H. Muritala. She asked for her w-2 forms back and was told she had to bring her mother to get her forms back.
When her mother came their , she was told they had to pay $120.00 or sue them to get her w-2 forms back. Complaints have been filed with the Board of Accountancy, The General Attorneys Office, and The Consumers Affairs Dept. and more are to be filed.
We can no longer let business come into our communities and mistreat our people and specially our kids.
We ask you not to do business with this company and inform your friends and family members also.

This seems like it would be against the law since the child is a minor. Assuming they are trying to say they have a verbal contract, it is not legal to enter into a verbal or written contract without parental consent if the child is under 18. Sounds like the media as well as police should be involved. They have this minor’s work info and social security number. There is no telling what they could do with this information.
Has this young lady received her w-2 forms back from New Era Accounting service?
This Accusation is totally not true the young lady came in wanting her taxes done and she was told that she should inform her parents so they would be able to still claim her. she came back and stated she wanted to file she had only worked for a short while meaning her tax refund would be small when she found out how much it would be or her parents informed her not to file she came and stated she did not want us to file them after the taxes were completed. her mother came in screaming and irate stating her husband was a radio owner so what@!!!! anyway he called stating he wanted her w’2 forms and we told him it would still cost we had done the work already anyway we told him to come in with her id and he could pick up the things. I was surprise to see it was my old boss Mr Brown and i was very disappointed when he brag about making this slander without having proof to his statement. Mr brown please use your pull to boycott people who are doing harm to others and not because you felted your daughter was being mistreated without checking.
Its really sad that the Greater Fulton Hill Newspaper has allowed itself to be used as an instrument of slander and abuse of the use of the media.Mr Preston Brown is using the fact that he is in the media to slander new Era Accounting & Tax Services.All allegations are false and this can be proven anywhere.The said minor is Mr Brown’s stepdaughter and she was never taken advantage of.She came into Neats to get her taxes done not to ask for the price as alleged if she had wanted to know the price she could have gotten the information on the phone.In fact she came two different times to make sure she gets her taxes done without her parents knowledge.It is good to always investigate before jumping to conclusions or before publishing an article.New Ear Accounting & Tax Services has been in business for over 10years not only in Richmond but in other parts of Virginia as well as other states.Please always investigate before printing any news.
The black community should come together to help grow our businesses so that we can have the Economic Power.We should not try to pull each other down like Mr Preston Brown is trying to do.NEATS is owned by an hardworking blackman.His stepdaughter was never taken advantage of she admitted this much to Mr Preston Brown and her mother.It baffles me that he is still publishing this slanderous article.He has collected the said W2 and he even signed for it,so why the slanderous campaign?
