Get involved on MLK Day

Hands On Greater Richmond is working to make MLK Day a ‘Day On’ instead of a day off. A wide range of service projects will take place in the Richmond area on the weekend of MLK Day of Service, from Saturday, January 17th, through Monday, January 19th, including a project helping to cut, transport, and install bamboo for the Neighborhood Resource Center. Recycle that Christmas Tree.

Christmas Tree Disposal Info – 2008/2009
There are approximately 25-30 million Real Christmas Trees sold in the U.S. every year. Real trees are a renewable, recyclable resource. CVWMA encourages residents throughout the Central Virginia region to recycle their personal trees. The Christmas Tree Recycling Program offered by our member localities to their residents is yet another way to recycle and go green for the holidays. The recycled trees will be ground into a mulch product.

Recycling rate tops 50% in Richmond

For the first time, Richmond-area residents are recycling more trash than they throw away, according to new state figures.
The Central Virginia Waste Management Authority reported a recycling rate of 50.3 percent for 2007. That was up from 46.3 percent in 2006.

Tips for your Home & Pets during Winter’s Coldest Nights
As I am sure everyone noticed last night, it got cold outside. Richmond Winter’s have proven to be mild and also snowless to my dismay but sometimes we actually get bitter cold nights. Tonight temperatures are forecasted to be about 7 degrees in the Richmond area and so I wanted to take the opportunity to give everyone some tips for your home and most importantly your pets.

MLK Day of Service @ NRC
Twenty or thirty people came out today for the MLK Day of Service to help out at the NRC. Some of us were cutting bamboo and attaching it to the fence out back while others were inside installing a bar and cabinets. Everything sure looks great and just in time for the Inauguration Jam…
