REA endorses McQuinn, Coleman

The Richmond Education Association (REA) announced on Friday their recommendations for Richmond School Board, Richmond City Council and Mayor for the elections this November, which include Delores McQuinn and Don Coleman in the 7th District and Dwight Jones for mayor.

From the press release:

For City Council, we recommend:
Bruce Tyler District 1
Tyron Bey District 2
Chris Hilbert District 3
Ellen Robertson District 6
Delores McQuinn District 7
Reva Trammell District 8
Eugene Mason District 9

For Richmond City School Board, we recommend:
Kimberly Bridges District 1
Chandra Smith District 6
Lisa Dawson District 2
Donald Coleman District 7
Adria Scott District 4
Charles Willis District 8
Otis Mallory District 5
Evette Wilson District 9

For Mayor of the City of Richmond, we recommend:
Dwight Jones

Issues facing our city’s public schools include the closing of additional schools, continuing implementation of the City of the Future Plan to renovate and build new schools, addressing student discipline and truancy, providing for an increasing ESL population, and obtaining sufficient funding from the city that actually reflects the true needs of the system. The officials we elect will be challenged with making crucial decisions for the next 4 years that affect the daily lives of our employees and our children as well as the future of public education in Richmond. With that in mind, the REA-Political Action Committee recommends candidates in this election that we view as friends of public education.
