Would anyone be interested in starting a Neighborhood Association for the Fulton Hill Area?
I would like to get some feedback on starting a Neighborhood Association for Fulton Hill. Now I know what comes to mind when you think of a Neighborhood Association - You can only paint your house a certain color, you have to have your trashcans hidden by a wooden structure or you can’t put lawn ornaments in your yard. Yes, those are rules but rules people in other Neighborhood Associations have put into place. With a Neighborhood Association you as residents are the ones that create the rules and guidelines but they are much more then that. An association can help bring the community together, it gets people involved in the happenings of the community, addresses safety issues, crime, blight but overall it gathers homeowners together to protect their property values and to improve the neighborhood.
As a homeowner and a resident here I love this Neighborhood and I am very excited about all of the people moving in and homes being renovated. However, it takes away from all of the beautification of the neighborhood when I look next door and see that my neighbor has turned his yard into a parking lot or has let his grass grow so high it is now a field. This is the kind of thing that can discourage people from moving in the neighborhood and cause your property value to drop.
I welcome your feedback on the matter and if you feel the same way I do and want to join in and get one started please let me know!

Isn’t there already a Greater Fulton Civic Association?
There is…but I think it is different from an actual Neighborhood Association. Do they create and enforce rules dealing with property?
As a side note I will email Bobby Vickers about it. If they do handle issues such as blight and property use I will go to a meeting and see if we can get more action taken on offenders.
The mission statement of the GFCA includes this:
Yeah I read that from their mission statement…though I wonder if they actually have any rules on property issues? I emailed Bobby to ask.
GFCA addresses all the concerns in your article, please come to a meeting, you will surprised at the information available.
I am! I am so happy there is one and that they do enforce property issues. The City is obviously incapable of following its own ordinances.
When is the next GFCA meeting? I would like to attend.
The next meeting of the Greater Fulton Hill Civic Association is scheduled for October 14 at 7:00 PM at the Neighborhood Resource Center-1519 Williamsburg Road.
