Prepare to dig much deeper in those pockets…

Natural Gas is going up in the City of Richmond again!

“Rising energy costs soon will hit natural-gas bills from the city of Richmond.

A typical customer can expect to pay about $19 more per month — from $114 to $133 — under the first of what could be two rate increases planned through the end of next winter, Christopher L. Beschler, Richmond’s director of public utilities, told the City Council last night.” -

Let me just say with the economy doing so poorly how can they expect us to dig into our pockets any deeper? Will there come a day when we must make a choice between buying food or gas for our cars and homes?

Isn’t electricity going up 18% also? Why such big increases all at once?

It already went up the first of July.

I’m already anxious about winter. There is NO WAY we will be able to afford oil to heat our home.

    We’re looking for alternatives…

vmallonee – That day has already come for many people. I plan on using our fireplace for heat as much as possible prior to turning on the furnace.

I plan on doing the same. So much for the idea of, “Well I will just turn the heat down and use a space heater.” Then your money will be going to Dominion.

There are a ton of alternatives out there now. All of them do cost but will save money in over time. I saved up and installed electric central heat & ac in my house and wasn’t sure what to expect this past winter but was knocked off my feet with the reduction in monthly bills! I was warmer and it literally cost me half of what it did to heat with gas! Even with the increase I still won’t be paying what I was before! PLUS I get to stay cool in the summer and it’s totally within budget as well! One of the guys on Luray (since moved and we have cute new neighbors there) Installed a pellet stove that worked from a thermostat to heat his house. He bought pellets in bulk and spent about 400-500 bucks to heat his house for the winter!
