I call the non-emergency police line in Richmond to report gun fire and drug activity (and that sort of thing) I find that I get much quicker attention to the issue. Also I never leave my name and number for them. I made the mistake one day of leaving the address that I was at with a client and asked that they not show up because it would draw the attention for the "gentlemen" with the guns to us. The police showed up banged on the door. Had us step outside and then pointed at the "gentlemen". Thanks for the target guys! So no name, number, address from me! Just let me see those flashing lights officer! :)

Richmond does have a gang task force, Rebecca F. can probably point you in the right direction. I understand that as of last year there are only 4 members to the gang task force and at times (when the city thinks it's called for) they are disbanded to be used on other issues. So Scary! When we need them 24/7 in this day and age.

I thought we had a gang task force, but I just tried to locate any information about it on the RPD website and it looks like I was mistaken. There is something called GRIP, but this program targets only the Broad Rock Road area.

Regardless, the residents of this community are the most important resource we have to break up the gangs. Never hesitate to call the police, always report children that are out after curfew (11:00 pm), and most importantly, don't let your children get involved with gangs. Know where your children are and make sure they understand they you disapprove of any behaviour that idolizes "gangster" life.

I was made aware (indavertently) of the gang activity BY my children. My daughter was only in second grade and she came home flashing gang hand symbols. She had no idea, but I knew what they were. Please watch for your children; they may not even know how dangerous it can be.
