This was a very unusual evening of improvisational jazz. Richmond’s own Four Story Saxophone Quartet, reunited for the first time in years, celebrated the rediscovery of their common groove. This Bag Is Not a Toy drove down all the way from DC to share their spooky mix of organ, bass and vocals. Marshall Allen and Elliott Levin played with authority and verve on a variety of instruments, and eventually most of the musicians joined together to conjure up a swirl of explosive tones and rhythms. It was inspiring to be a part of such joyous creativity.
