Mess o’ Greens in Fulton
Do you need some collard greens for your table? Some gentlemen from North Carolina are selling greens from atop their pickup truck at the bottom of Powhatan Hill. Apparently $10 will buy you a HUGE bag of greens. I’ve already unloaded some on our dear postman but I’ve got more to share. Seriously!

asking for an elementary school, please
At last night’s School Board Meeting, the Board’s move to adopt an updated facilities master plan stalled, with the plan sent to the facilities committee for more research. A small group of adults (some in plastic yellow hardhats) urged the board to reconsider the plan and to consider building an elementary school in Fulton. [via]

urban forest threatened
Leading with a quote by Fulton artist Paul DiPasquale, today’s RTD has a look at the city’s “complaint-driven tree-maintenance policy [which] threatens the urban forest“. City crews are cutting down 1,500 to 2,000 trees a year (often in response to neighbor complaints), while planting only 300 new trees.

a history of Richmond

I picked up Carlton McKenney’s Rails in Richmond (Interurban Press, 1986) a while back. Having always been fascinated that there used to be trolley lines all over the city, I couldn’t pass up this history of Richmond’s horse-drawn and electric trolleys.

Then and Now

Whether or not you agree with their editorializing, the amateur historian Richmond Then and Now has a treasure trove of “then and now” photos from around Richmond and a collection of newspaper articles on Fulton from 1930-1980 (such as the Jan.1967 ‘Birthplace’ of Richmond Now Appears Sick, Shaggy, particularly evocative from 40 years out).

School Board public forum on “New Direction”
The Richmond School Board held a public forum this evening at Armstrong High School to present and take comments on their “New Direction for RPS” planning as of yet. In attendance were board members Keith West and Chandra Smith, and RPS Superintendent Dr.Jewell-Sherman.

Logan spotted in Fulton Bottom
Officials believe that escaped convict Alonzo Logan was spotted in Fulton Bottom early this morning. Logan was apparently looking for his brother at around 1AM at his former apartment in Woodcroft Village on Jennie Scher Road. He may have been sited this afternoon in Church Hill and is considered armed and dangerous. [via]

Neighborhood Resource Center reaches out to all
People of all ages can take advantage of the resources that Fulton Hill’s Neighborhood Resource Center offers. Activities range from art, ballet and modern dance, to tutoring sessions, computer basics and General Education Diploma classes. Most programs are free and are run by community volunteers.
